HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigens) are a complex of genes in a region of your DNA called major histocompatibility complex (MHC) present on chromosome 6. They are an important part of your immune system. HLA-B27 is seen in about 8% of normal population. It is associated in 79% patients suffering with a form of arthritis affecting the spine called Ankylosing spondylitis. It is also associated with certain eye disorders with arthritis like Reiter’s syndrome.
