Varicella zoster virus (VZV) causes Chickenpox in early life and later on, it can get activated to cause Herpes zoster (Shingles). It causes a skin rash & spreads by direct contact with this rash or when you inhale air droplets from an infected person when they cough or sneeze. People at risk are newborns whose mothers are not vaccinated against Chickenpox, smokers, people taking steroids etc.This test is performed in the blood & if positive, it indicates that you have been exposed to this virus.
