Uric acid is produced during the breakdown of purines, which are found in certain foods and are also formed by your body. It is excreted out through the kidneys. If your kidneys are not functioning properly, uric acid excretion is affected and this causes deposits of uric acid in joints and it can form stones in your urinary tract. Risk factors for developing uric acid stones are obesity, diabetes & if you are on chemotherapy.
