Prostate specific antigen (PSA Total) is a blood test that helps in the screening of prostate cancer. PSA is a protein produced by both cancerous and noncancerous tissue in the prostate, a small gland that sits below the bladder in males. This test is also used to monitor recurrence & response to treatment in known cases of prostate cancer. Many other conditions, such as an enlarged or inflamed prostate can also increase PSA levels.
