White blood cells (WBC) / Leucocytes protect your body against infections & foreign particles. They are part of the immune system. There are commonly 5 types of WBC in the blood namely: Neutrophils, Lymphocytes, Eosinophils, Monocytes & Basophils. These cells together form the Differential leucocyte count (DLC). Neutrophils are most abundant and are usually raised in bacterial infections, injury & fevers. Lymphocytes and Monocytes are usually raised in viral infections & blood cancers. High Eosinophils are associated with allergic conditions. Sometimes abnormal cells may appear indicating that you have an underlying medical condition that calls for further evaluation. This test also helps to monitor a known medical condition. This test evaluates DLC in blood.
