Overview :-

Dual test is a blood test conducted in pregnant women between 9 to 13 weeks + 6 days of pregnancy to screen for certain genetic defects such as Down syndrome (defect in chromosome number 21), Edward’s syndrome (defect in chromosome number 18) & Open neural tube defects. In addition, ultrasound (USG) is conducted in the first trimester of pregnancy and both blood biochemical parameters & USG findings are used to calculate the risk to the fetus. If the test result indicates increased chances of genetic defect in the fetus, confirmatory tests are required such as Chorionic villus biopsy & Amniocentesis.
